Are laser pens illegal in the UK?
No. Owning and using a class 2 laser pointer with an output up to 1 mW is fine for normal purposes such as presenting, stargazing and pointing. Class 2 is the class intended for sale to the public in the UK, and it is the only class we sell. What is illegal is misuse: shining a laser at a vehicle or aircraft is a criminal offence. More in our guide to laser pointer law in the UK.
What is the most powerful laser pointer I can buy in the UK?
For the public, the sensible ceiling is class 2: up to 1 mW. Within that limit, a green laser looks by far the brightest because the eye is most sensitive to green. Our G3 Pro green laser pointer shows a dot at approx. 300 m at dusk and approx. 1 km in the dark (indicative). We do not sell higher-power lasers; see how bright a class 2 laser pointer really is.
Is a pen laser pointer also a writing pen?
No. Our laser pens are pen-shaped laser pointers with a pocket clip, not ballpoint pens. That keeps them slim and simple: one button, two AAA batteries, a bright dot. The X1 green laser pen is our most popular pen model.
Which laser pointer colour is the most visible?
Green. At the same class 2 output, a 532 nm green dot looks much brighter than red or violet. Red is a good, calm choice for screens and indoor presentations; violet is more of a special effect. Compare them in red vs green laser pointer.
How far does a class 2 laser pointer reach?
It depends on the colour and the light. For our green lasers: 30 m+ indoors, approx. 100 m in daylight on a shaded surface, approx. 300 m at dusk and approx. 1 km in the dark. These are indicative figures that depend on light, weather and surface. Read how far a laser pointer can go.
Is a class 2 laser pointer safe for the eyes?
Class 2 is the low-power class where the blink reflex protects the eye against a brief, accidental exposure. You should still never look into the beam or point it at anyone's eyes, and keep it away from children. Our safety page lists the rules.
How quickly will my laser pointer arrive?
Orders placed before 3 pm (UK time) on a working day are dispatched the same day with PostNL. Delivery to the UK takes 2–5 working days and is fully tracked. The parcel fits through your letterbox, and UK delivery is free from £50. Depending on the order value, UK import VAT or a handling fee may be collected on delivery. See shipping and returns.
Which batteries does a laser pen need?
The X1, X2, M1 and Z1 laser pens use two AAA batteries (included). The full-size Pro models use one rechargeable 18650 cell and the compact Pro models one 16340 cell, both with a PowerFox charger included that charges the battery outside the laser. Spares are in laser pen batteries.
