A rechargeable red laser pointer suits anyone who points every day: lecturers and teachers, trainers, museum and tour guides, people who run a warehouse or a workshop. Red is calm on a projector screen and easy on the audience, and with a rechargeable cell and charger in the box you are always ready for the next session.

The R1 Pro is the full-size model: 15 cm long, an 18650 cell and two safety keys so you can lock it in a shared office or classroom. The R2 Pro is the compact version at 11.2 cm with a 16340 cell. Both have an aluminium body and an output up to 1 mW, laser class 2.

R1 Pro or R2 Pro?

Do you share the laser with colleagues or keep it in a classroom? Take the R1 Pro for the key lock. Do you carry it with you all day? The R2 Pro disappears in a shirt pocket. Only presenting now and then? The M1 red laser pen on AAA batteries is the simpler option.

Tips for daily presenters

• Charge the cell the evening before a long day of teaching or training, and keep a charged spare in your bag.
• Circle or underline what you are talking about instead of holding the dot still: a slow movement is easier for the audience to follow.
• Release the button before you turn towards the audience, so the beam never sweeps across the room.
• In a school, take the key out of the R1 Pro at the end of the lesson and keep the laser in a locked drawer.
